The 59th ACLPS Annual Meeting was held Thursday-Saturday, 6-8 June 2024 in New York, NY. The program featured leading research in laboratory medicine presented by invited speakers and Young Investigators. Scientific sessions and an awards banquet were held on the campus of Columbia University at the elegant Faculty House, a landmark in Upper Manhattan since 1923.
The 2024 Annual Meeting was hosted by the Columbia University Department of Pathology. Its faculty have led the way nationally in advancing cancer-related and constitutional genetic and genomic clinical testing. Its precision medicine mission has expanded to include novel test development, cutting edge research, genetic counseling and creative educational opportunities. With a long history of scientific accomplishments, commitment to clinical innovation, and nationally recognized programs in anatomic pathology, laboratory medicine, investigative pathology, and cell biology research, the department is uniquely positioned to impact the future of laboratory medicine.
The meeting organizers planned a program with presentations in clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, clinical hematology, toxicology, blood banking and transfusion medicine, cellular therapy, clinical informatics, clinical immunology, clinical laboratory genetics and genomics, and laboratory automation.
Abstracts were encouraged from both trainees and faculty members. Abstracts from trainees that were accepted for the session for submitted scientific papers were given as either an oral or poster presentation:
Oral Presentation — limited to exactly 10 minutes of PowerPoint presentation followed by 5 minutes for discussion and questions from the floor.
Poster Presentation — Printed scientific posters, vertical or horizontal, maximum 36 x 48 inches (91 x 122 cm). Presenters were responsible for printing their posters and mounting them on the provided presentation boards.
Company or manufacturer emblems were NOT permitted in either type of presentation.
ACLPS Junior Faculty Abstract Awards
The new ACLPS Junior Faculty Award was awarded to two faculty within 5 years of their initial faculty appointment. Junior Faculty Awardees were invited to give a platform presentation at the ACLPS annual meeting. Submissions from individuals more than 5 years of their initial faculty appointment were selected for poster presentations.
Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Awards
Residents, fellows, and doctoral scientists actively training in programs in the health sciences who have participated in research with a member of ACLPS, or who are sponsored by an ACLPS member, are considered eligible for the Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Award (YIA) Program, as described in the full call for abstracts.
To receive an award, the young investigator was required be the presenter and still be in training at the time of presentation at the annual meeting. A sponsoring ACLPS member was required to verify the eligibility of the young investigator.
