UTRIG – New Free Online Medical Student Genomics Modules

New Free Medical Student Genomics Modules!

The  Undergraduate Training in Genomics Working Group (UTRIG) is pleased to announce that ALL NEW Online Medical Student Genomics Modules are now available to download!

UTRIG is made up of experts in medical education in collaboration with representatives from major Pathology and Genomics organizations including ACLPS. This inter-professional group has developed a field-tested introductory genomics curriculum designed for integration into medical school coursework consisting of approximately seven hours of team-based learning instruction.  An Instructor Handbook and Toolkit are available to enable medical and other health professional schools to locally implement this training.

The Online Modules translate the live curriculum to an interactive virtual team-based learning experience. The four modules follow the structure of the medical student in-person workshop. Through simulations, users learn fundamental aspects of genetics-related patient care including how to navigate online genomics tools, discuss patient genetic histories/develop pedigrees and interpret histology slides. Medical student reviewers found the modules a worthwhile and engaging approach to learning key aspects of genomic medicine.  The modules can be integrated into an existing curriculum or students can use them independently.
